Adaras Aldea, Almansa, Garnacha Tinto, Spain (bottle price £11.50)
Almansa sits South West of Valencia in Eastern Spain. The producers of this wine Adaras harvest from 225 hectares of the Venta La Vega ecological vineyards located at the foothills of the legendary Almansa mountains known as El Mugrón. They hold the largest single planting of Garnacha Tintorera in Europe.
A fun fact about this is grape is that it is one of the only grapes that has a red juice inside the grapes (nearly all are translucent). Abundant water and excellent limestone soils, with a natural micro-climate and altitudes of 1200 metres encourage the creation of vineyards that can be farmed using ecological techniques that do not involve chemical treatments or additives. 3 months in oak and a little bit of Syrah blended this is a cracking wine. There is huge development happening in this area and is a place to watch out for the future!
