Abismo, Treixadura, Spain (bottle price £14)
Based in the relatively unknown Ribeiro region of Spain, Bodegas Pazo de Vieite has 10 hectares of granite-sand vineyards at altitudes between 200-350m. The microclimate of the area allows them to specialise in the cultivation of a particular native white grape called Treixadura which is the only grape used in this wine.
When we first tried this it completely divided the room. Our assessment was that if you are a fan of wines such as New Zealand, Sauvignon Blanc or Picpoul de Pinet then this will absolutely be the wine for you. It is expressive with green fruits dominating and a beautiful finish. If you are looking for something a little different to pair with food We would recommend the Abyss!
